Street lighting: all tunnels under the Rocher lighting is switching to LEDs. The work will be carried out in July and August.

In an effort to control energy consumption and environmental concerns, whilst also tackling the ageing of certain equipment such as fluorescent and sodium lamps, the Government will be upgrading the lighting in the tunnels under the Rocher, starting on 10 July 2023.

The seven tunnels in the under the Rocher network are currently equipped with 637 lighting fixtures, housing 1,340 fluorescent tubes and high-pressure sodium lamps.

There are many benefits to replacing these energy-consuming lamps with luminaires equipped with electroluminescent sources (LEDs).

- the number of luminaires will be reduced to 213
- the total power of the units installed, compared to the existing units will be reduced by an eighth
- with a service life of between 80,000 and 100,000 hours, the components will only need replacing every 10 years
- closure times for routine maintenance of the under the Rocher tunnels will be reduced by a quarter: the cost of maintaining the lighting will be cut by an eighth.

To limit the impact on the environment and to maintain daytime traffic flow, the roadworks will be carried out in four phases, lasting until April 2024, and involve periodic, targeted closures to traffic. These closures will also be used to carry out other maintenance work at the same time.

The first phase will be carried out in July and August exclusively at night, from Monday to Saturday between 9pm and 5:30am. The "Fontvieille", "Noghès" and "Antoine 1er” tunnels will be closed, leaving the following routes available to road users:

- To reach Fontvieille: access via Avenue de Fontvieille or Liaison Marquet
- To exit Fontvieille: via Avenue de Fontvieille, Liaison Marquet and the tunnel under the Rocher giving access to Boulevard Albert 1er and Giratoire Canton.
