Mission for Energy Transition holds workshop for hotel industry

On Wednesday 6 March, the Mission for Energy Transition organised a workshop at the Grimaldi Forum for hotels which have signed the National Energy Transition Pact. Entitled “Achieving zero waste: best practices for hotels”, the workshop set out various actions the Principality’s hotels could take in order to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. Invitees represented the various roles involved in these efforts: hotel managers, HR managers, technical teams, and so on.

Johanne Saget from Swiss firm The One Consulting, which offers consultancy services and specialist training for the luxury and hospitality industry, began by noting that there is no inherent incompatibility between hotels – and the luxury sector more broadly – and environmental and energy transition issues. Quite the contrary, in fact, since addressing these issues can improve the quality of the customer experience. With the benefit of her vast background in this field, Ms Saget encouraged hotels to take advantage of changing habits and practices. “It is by offering different alternatives and ‘challenging’ suppliers that we will, eventually, change behaviour,” she said.

Johanne Saget presented a full range of best practices, including reducing the use of plastic, cutting food waste, saving energy, hosting eco-friendly events, achieving green certifications and adopting the right communications, to representatives from the sector, which includes some of the most committed and motivated stakeholders in the Principality.

Following the presentation, Responsible Tourism Manager Estelle Antognelli showed participants a video from the Tourist and Convention Authority’s most recent Green Is the New Glam campaign.
